Industry Track: Connected Sensors are Enabling a Smarter Society – From Hype to Products

Connected Sensors are Enabling a Smarter Society – From Hype to Products

Wednesday, October 31st from 10:30 - 12:00 in Comeeting 4

Are Internet of Things (IoT) and digital transformation trends, merely a hype or already a reality? What are the key enablers for these trends and how does it relate to the sensor world?

Technological advancements combining various smart sensor technologies, intelligent data processing in embedded devices and connectivity solutions have helped bridge the gap between the physical and digital worlds. Connected Sensors thus enable smart measurements, data collection, decision-making and value creation in our society at large, starting from home, lifestyle, transportation and industry, to agriculture, healthcare, microclimate and infrastructure domains. Over the past years, several market players ranging from start-ups to established sensor suppliers, system integrators and end-user product (OEM) companies have increasingly ventured out connected sensor products or solutions. These products range from consumer devices like smart phones, pedometers, heartrate monitors, weather stations, smart (energy) meters and smart home appliances to higher value-adding applications like the connected vehicles, microclimate monitoring, traffic monitoring, emergency response systems, infrastructure monitoring, smart parking, smart agriculture and airport management.

In this panel represented by a selected group of industry experts as our panelists and moderator, we will attempt to review some of the currently available, state-of-the-art Connected Sensor enabled products or solutions, and discuss the challenges and opportunities we could perceive for their next-generation development from various facets – Smart Sensor Technologies, Embedded Systems, Robustness, Data Security, other Human Factors and Business Models.
