BIOGRAPHY

David Cumming studied Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Glasgow (1989) and went on to complete a PhD in Microelectronics at the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge (1993). He subsequently became a VLSI Design Engineer with STMicroelectronics before returning to academia. He was a Lecturer at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand before taking up a post at the University of Glasgow where he now holds the Chair of Electronic Systems and is the Head of the School of Engineering.  He leads the Microsystem Technology Group; in addition to supervising many PhD students and post-doctoral researchers, producing 300 publications, he has  spun-out a diagnostics company and contributed research to the Ion Torrent gene sequencing system. He is FIEEE, FRSE and FREng.
